Simply remove the stock guard and snap this one into place. The backside of this guard has projections to cover the holes on the top and sides of the pump unit. All water entering the pump flows through the guard. Simple to install and no risk of your tank inhabitants getting sucked in through the back of the pump. Larger surface area than the stock guard
