British group The Foundations generated a worldwide hit with this track, which was released on Dec. 3, 1968 in the U. S. It reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, #2 on the UK chart, #1 in Canada, and it also charted in Australia and across Europe. It was in fact certified Gold by the RIAA on Mar. 4, 1969. (Note: This is not a RIAA award).
