Adorable Larimar Necklace - Natural Designer Gemstone Essentials With a Celtic inspired detailingThis stunning sky blue gemstone is Larimar, a rare blue variety of gem pectolite from the the Dominican Republic, in the Caribbean. In 1974, Dominican Miguel Mndez and Norman Rilling, a Peace Corps volunteer from the US, found larimar stones scattered on a beach along the coast of Barahona. These pieces were dragged into the ocean by the Bahoruco River. They named the stone Lari mar after Mendezs daughter Larissa, and the Spanish word Mar, for sea.
