The carving adds a fluid yet structured look as the layers of clay throughout the marbled body emerge. I don't use templates as I carve I look to accentuate the form. The finished vase does beckon to be held, it is very tactile and the grooves catch shadows in a dramatic way. This vase is made from porcelain and a Brooklyn red clay.
